About this work
The four panels were commissioned by Jules Déjean, a businessman and friend of Paul Ranson, to decorate his villa in Sète. Based on themes linked to nature, the panels are often associated with the seasons, as symbolised by different floral arrangements.
Painted in Art Nouveau style, the panels display the influence of Japanese prints in their use of sinuous lines, patterns, arabesques and blocks of the pictorial surface.
