About this work

The landscape artist Henri Martin was equally attracted by ports, which offered him the chance to explore the conjunction of the immobility and mineral nature of the rocks with the ceaseless flux of the waves in a palette reduced to blue and brown.
But it was above all in Collioure, where he bought a house in 1923, that he gave himself over to new research into colour through studies of the marriage of sea and stone.
