About the Gallery

La galerie, vue de façadeThe two decades which bridge Impressionism to the Abstraction of the twentieth century are a period of rupture and upheaval rather than of transition. The birth of Modernism was a violent affair. Daring chromatic and formal innovations took place only to be supplanted by yet others in rapid succession. The young and incendiary artists responsible for them, actors in what Gertrude Stein called ‘the heroic age of painting’, were idealists and visionaries. Their revolutions, which broke with hallowed traditions dating back to the Renaissance, changed our way of seeing forever.

The Galerie du Post-Impressionnisme (located 14 avenue Matignon in Paris) takes pride in presenting representative works from this extraordinary moment in art history. It specialises in paintings of Neo-Impressionist movements (the Pointilist circle of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac and the later Divionists, such as Maximilien Luce, Camille Pissarro…), the circle of Pont-Aven School (Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard…), synthetist works of the Nabis group (Paul Sérusier, Maurice Denis, Pierre Bonnard…), and finally, the colourfully explosive paintings of the fauve Movement (Matisse, Derain, Vlaminck…).

Gallery Director, Camille Meyneng, is one of a new, dynamic and professional generation of art dealers. Descended from a long line of distinguished collectors, she grew up in an artistic milieu. Participating in a series of prestigious international art fairs in Paris, London and the United States, she shares her passion and her insights with an art-loving public.

Art historian and expert, Jean-Yves Rolland (author of a monographie on Henry Moret) is a familiar figure in the art world and collaborates regularly with museums and institutions. As co-director of the gallery, he brings his long experience to bear in the selection and documentation of works presented.
